Financial Statement Analysis I
This class provides the student with an overview of basic financial statements, qualitative issues in using these reports, and analysis of these statements for the purpose of making trade credit decisions. The class will address the purposes and composition of the balance sheet, operating statement, and cash flow statement, the audit letter and footnotes, GAAP/IFRS and common deviations, various techniques used in statement analysis to evaluate liquidity, operating performance, and leverage, including common-sizing and ratio analysis; cash flow analysis; and the use of these techniques in trade credit decisioning.

Required for Credit Business Associate (CBA).

An accomplished educator and business professional, Irene Seto, MBA, CMA brings a rich blend of academic expertise and hands-on business experience. Holding an MBA with a concentration in International Business, dual BA degrees in Advertising Management and Marketing, and fluency in Mandarin and Cantonese, Irene has developed a strong foundation for teaching and consulting in business and accounting disciplines.
As a Full-Time Faculty member at Portland Community College since 2017, Irene has taught a wide array of courses in business, accounting, and career management, incorporating diverse instructional methods including traditional, remote, and online formats. She is well-versed in curriculum development and has a track record of ensuring courses meet Quality Matters standards.
In addition to academic roles, Irene has held key leadership positions in the business sector, including serving as Consulting CFO for West Coast Real Estate Exchange, managing financial operations for Dragonwell Bistro, and overseeing major projects at Terra Solar Global, Inc. and its subsidiaries. She has extensive experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and corporate governance, and has successfully led initiatives in both U.S. and international markets.
An active member of professional organizations such as the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges (TACTYC), Irene continues to contribute to the academic and business communities through leadership and mentoring.
